BearVault Packable Food Storage Canisters Sizes 7.2L and 11.5L
From: $4.00
If your next backcountry involves venturing into bear country this is the best way to keep your food and more importantly your camp safe. The threaded lid seals in smells and prevents bears from being attracted to your food and your camp. Increasingly this method of food storage is seen as safer than hanging bear bags and on many trails and national parks it is even required.
Specifically designed to be wide, round and slippery to reduce leverage points for entry from bear jaws, claws and paws
Weight is low and volume is high, thanks to the durable, polycarbonate construction
Transparent canister is easy to see into and doesn’t require you to empty the contents of the container to find specific items
Wide opening allows you to reach all the way in to find your tasty treats
Screw-on lid is intuitive and secure, and doesn’t require extra tools to operate; no need to overtighten
Strap guides aid in strapping and packing canister to your preference; an ideal place for your can is inside your pack just above your sleeping bag
Rounded corners allow for smooth packing and removal
Container doubles as a camp stool, a luxury most backpackers leave behind; close lid fully when using as a stool to preserve the screw-top threads
This BearVault model has approval from both the Sierra Interagency Black Bear Group and Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee
BV 500 fits about 7 days of food for one person and BV 450 fits 3-4 days of food for one person.
BearVault recommends that you do not hang your BearVault canisters but store them away from your tent and camping area.
BearVault canisters are water resistant but not waterproof and therefore not fully submersible. If the packraft part of your trip involves likely swimming you’ll want to store the canister in a dry place.
See BearVault’s website for a list of tips and tricks to help make your experience with the canisters safe and effective.
